At Y-Malawi, we believe in more than just teaching skills, we believe in transforming lives. This month, we celebrated a beautiful milestone: the graduation of students from our Vocational Training Center (VTC). Each graduate not only completed their training with excellence but also received startup materials to begin their journey with confidence and purpose. These young men and women have worked diligently, learning practical skills that will empower them to provide for themselves and their families. Whether it’s tailoring, carpentry, welding, or other trades, they are stepping into their communities not just as skilled workers, but as hope-bearers.
As we handed over their certificates and startup kits, we were reminded of God’s heart for empowerment. In Deuteronomy 8:18, we read, “But remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth.” These tools and skills are not merely resources, they are instruments of dignity, stewardship, and opportunity. We are not giving handouts. We are investing in the God-given potential of each student. We are saying, “You are capable. You are needed. You are equipped for good works.”
One graduate, Shira, who completed the tailoring program, shared: “Before I came to the VTC, I had no direction. Now I can sew clothes and even start a small business. The sewing machine I received is not just equipment – it is my future.” Jacqueline, who trained in carpentry, reflected with gratitude: “I never thought I would graduate from anything. Today, I not only have a certificate, but I also have tools to start my own workshop. I thank God for this chance.”
In Ephesians 4:28, the Apostle Paul encourages this kind of empowerment, where he says, “Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need.” This is exactly what our VTC is about. It is equipping individuals to work with their hands, build sustainable futures, and become contributors in their communities.
Finally, we are especially grateful to our partners and supporters who made this possible. Your prayers, generosity, and belief in this mission have helped turn classrooms into launching pads. As our graduates head out into the world, they carry not only their training and materials, but also the love of Christ and the hope of the Gospel. Please continue to pray for them as they start their businesses, navigate challenges, and shine as lights in their communities. And may we, as a ministry, never tire of sowing into lives that bear fruit for the Kingdom.
