Women and Girls
The Reality In Malawi

Sponsorships
A sponsorship is a great way to empower a woman in Malawi as she pursues a brighter future for herself and her family. Sponsorships include quarterly status updates and photos, as well as opportunities to respond.

Vocational Training
Vocational training provides women with the skillsets and knowledge to run their own small business, whether that is sewing clothing or pursuing a culinary career.
Home Safe
House
Y-Malawi’s Home Safe initiative offers young girls a safe place to stay near their school. Girls in Malawi often have to walk a great distance to school, leaving them vulnerable to sexual violence and interfering with time for homework and study.
Child Bride
Rescue
Each year we work with village chiefs to rescue young girls who were given in marriage, often for a small dowry. Y-Malawi’s Girls of Distinction program reminds these young women that they are seen and loved by God and have a promising future ahead.
Village Savings and Loan Clubs
Y-Malawi’s Village Savings and Loans Clubs teach women how to effectively pool their resources to invest in the community. If a woman cannot afford seeds for her garden but can access a community loan, she feeds her family, repays the loan, and collects interest when her money is used on other projects.
Bible Study
Y-Malawi’s weekly bible studies at churches and community centers make disciples, heal broken marriages, and encourage new parents. To know there is a loving God who sees you and cares for you makes all the difference!
Counseling
Malawi’s team is built of strong, faithful Christian women who have achieved academic and professional success. They pay it forward by offering counseling in regard to discipleship, nutrition, hygiene, and other essentials.

Sometimes a woman has no food to feed her family. Sometimes a widow’s roof begins to leak. No matter the situation, we have team members and local pastors on the ground ready to offer resources in times of need.
Village Churches
When you hear the word “church,” what picture comes to mind?
Y-Malawi supports local village churches as they engage in on-the-ground discipleship efforts within their unique communities. Our everyday work includes training and equipping pastors, supplying Bible-based curriculum, and leading classes that transform families and communities.
Some churches within our network operate in traditionally Christian areas, while others spread the gospel in predominantly Muslim regions. Regardless, the goal is the same: to share the good news of Jesus, practice love for one’s neighbor, and serve the least of these.
Vocational Training Center
Y-Malawi’s Vocational Training Center (VTC)
prepares the next generation of Malawian leaders.

Farm Project
In Malawi there are three seasons: the dry season, the wet season, and the hunger season.
The hunger season takes place between when crops are planted and when they are harvested, and it’s the time of year where food is scarce across the country.
Our 100-acre farm - sold to us by local village chiefs - uses the latest irrigation techniques to grow crops year round, providing local communities with access to healthy nutrition when it is needed most. Food grown in other seasons is sold at the market and used to support other elements of our ministry.
Medical Care
Most medical records in Malawi are not digitized, which means each individual - man, woman, and child - needs a Malawi Health Passport - a paper booklet that documents and retains their medical history. Without that booklet, they have no proof of past medical conditions and treatments.
Y-Malawi’s team of medical professionals (along with visiting professionals from across the world) provide residents with life-saving medical assistance and screenings.
Y-Malawi’s Vocational Training Center (VTC) now has a medical clinic on-site, offering patients access to medical care, referrals, and prescriptions.
Our team regularly visits and treats patients in remote villages, shining God’s light into the darkness and replacing worry and despair with peace and hope.

Y-Malawi community development projects accomplish these tasks and more so families and communities can live healthier lives. When basic needs are addressed, Malawians are able to shift their focus to improvement, growth, and community well-being.
